Spectrum

“Spectrum”, Tony Lee’s first exhibition, in collaboration with artist Edwin Blanco, will be an evening that explores the visualization of colors with integrated media. Featuring Kelly Ruiz and members Celina Ces, Jamie Garcia and Jazrhyn-Mae Garcia of the Wabi-Sabi Society, live dance performances will react and respond to the sensation of colors through the usage of movement and space. The exhibition will take place at Fathom Gallery on September 20, 2018, Lee will share his latest instillation, with an opening reception to follow from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Complimentary small bites and beverages will be provided.

Tony Lee is a 3D designer and artist. His influences include movies, video games, virtual and augmented reality, motion-graphics and visual effects. Tony Lee’s work focuses on producing works that embody the connected energy and movement between humans and their sense of place. He sets up systems of creating musically-generated visuals from fragments and patterns in his imagination and his memory. Tony currently lives and works in his hometown of Township of Washington, in Bergen County, New Jerse.

Edwin Blanco is an architect based in Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia. Former classmate and roommate of Tony Lee, he and Tony have shared their passions of movies, music and architectural design, often theorizing on concepts of human reflection and existentialism. He has named his work, “Fairytales”, a series of compositions that blend his polished illustrating techniques, with vibrant and colorful digital painting. Edwin is a devoted husband and father.

The Wabi Sabi Society is an evolving collection of passionate creatives that organizes pop up performances, movement experiments, and interactive dance experiences around the Washington D.C. area, founded by Jamie Garcia at the beginning of 2018. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese way of life focusing on the acknowledgement and appreciation of the “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.” Thus the Wabi-Sabi Society produces artistic experiences rooted in this philosophy. Their performances and compositions are brief moments that captivate the senses, trigger one’s curiosity, and help discover/develop one’s creative identity. Each is never without flaws and impossible to repeat, embodying the essence of wabi-sabi.

Kelly Ruiz is one of today’s most prominent figures in both the commercial modelling industry and the freestyle street dance scene. A homegrown DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) native, Kelly has been blazing a trail with her numerous modelling shows, acting gigs and street dance event appearances. Her unique dance style, known as “electro”, originates from French and European metropolis nightclubs, typically performed to electro music. She recently signed with “Just You Agency”, based in New York. In her spare time, she enjoys watching anime and teaching people electro dance
