State of the Union: Roger Anthony

Sunday April 24

5:00 – 8:00 PM

What happens to the mind when all it knows are lies? What happens to the heart when all it can do is weep or the body when all it consumes is poison? Roger Anthony’s first solo show, State of the Union, explores the darker side of the human experience. Beyond the surface level of casual conversation, Anthony uses an array of mediums to start a dialogue that ends in introspection. State of the Union challenges viewers to question what was, what is and what will be in the context of everyday life in America.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Roger Anthony

Atlanta born artist Roger Anthony found his way to the district in 2005 when he began his undergraduate education at Howard University. While working toward his degree in civil engineering, Roger realized his passion for art. Ignited by his love of tattoos, Roger pursued an apprenticeship at Pinz n Needlez Tattoo where he began to hone his craft. From tattooing he transitioned to working with oil pastels and acrylics on canvas. Drawing inspiration from African culture, his everyday surroundings and the complex nature of animals, Roger creates both visually pleasing and thought provoking works of art.
